Vidi make the visit to the Puskas Academy at the weekend

Both teams kicked off the new season with wins. Puskas Academy came away from Ujpest with a 3-1 victory while Vidi beat Kaposvar 4-2 at home.

Vidi kicked off the new season with a 4-2 home win over Kaposvar on Sunday evening. Next up in the OTP league division one is a trip to Felcsut and a match against Puskas Academy on the 11th August with an 18:00pm kick off. 

The team from Felcsut had a good pre-season beating Csakvar, Haladas. Zarkovo and Larissa. They also made a very good start to the new season with a 3-1 away win at Ujpest. That puts them in second place in the table behind MOL Fehervar FC. 

The key figure in their win was our former player Ezekiel Henty, who scored two goals before coming off in the second half. He returned to the Puskas Academy from a loan spell in the summer. PAFC made several other signings to strengthen their squad during the close season. Midfielder Yoell van Nieff came in from Heracles while central defender Meissner arrived from Willem II in the Dutch first division. Both of those players made a combined 167 appearances in the Eredivisie. Lorand Fulop came in together with Andras Huszti from Tiszakecske. Vanec was brought in from Hearts and he played against Ujpest. Mebrahtu signed from Sparta Praha and came on as a substitute for Puskas at the weekend. Another signing was Bence Sos from Vidi with his loan deal becoming a permanent one. Marton Radics made the step up from the youth set-up for the yellow and blues. 

Those leaving included Mioc Benedik who returned to Ozijek at the end of his loan deal. Adam Csilus, Peter Szakaly and Panama player Tony Taylor had their contracts broken up with the others finding new clubs. Prosser and Danilovic moved to DVTK while Osvath and Balazs Balogh joined Paks. Mark Szecsi joined DVSC after his original loan deal ended Gabor Molnar also signed for Mezokovesd after a similar loan, while Andras Rado switched to ZTE. Adrian Rus moved to Vidi during the summer. Players also moved abroad with Liridon Latifi moving to Moldova champions Sheriff while Gonzalo Vega moved to Uruguay second division side Rentistas. Bachana Arabuli headed over to Greece and Panionios. 

The transfermarkt.de website values their squad at 9,55 million euros, which is the third highest in the Hungarian league. Highest value player is Henty on 850,000 euros, with Vanecek on 750,000 just behind. Knezevic, Meissner and Fulip are all on 700,000€.

Puskas lined up for their first game of the season at Ujpest as follows: Hegedüs - Szolnoki, Meissner, Hadzhiev, Nagy Zs. - Sós (Kiss T., 84.), van Nieff (Spandler, 72.), Radics - Knezevic - Henty (Mebrahtu, 62.), Vanecek.
