Videoton sign loan midfielder from Serie-A

Filipe Oliveira will join Videoton on a season long loan deal

Filipe Oliveira was born in Braga, Portugal on the 27th May 1984. He began playing for the local club, before joining Porto's youth side at the age of 16, for a two year period. "I remember back then that Miklos Feher played for Porto, and we were all impressed with the first team players at Porto at the time. The tradegy with Miki in 2004, really affected me. I was playing in England at the time, but naturally I kept up to date with the Portuguese domestic league." explained Oliveira.

The question then turned to how the young Portuguese player ended up in England. "Good question, Claudio Ranieri, who was the manager at Chelsea at the time, began taking notice of me, and he wanted me to sign for Chelsea as a result. I joined a very good side then and the Chelsea squad was very strong. It was my first professional club, so it was never going to be easy for me to get into the first team there. I went on loan to two smaller clubs. I had good relationship with the biggest stars there like Drogba, Lampard and Terry. Of course my closest relationships were with Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira and Tiago Mendes. I still keep in contact with them until this day."

Oliveira went on to make only five appearances for the west London club. He returned back home to Portugal four years later in 2006, where he had spells with Maritimo, Leixões and then back to his former club, Braga, where he remained from 2008-2010. Oliveira also went on to make 21 appearances for the Portuguese U21 side during 2004-2007, scoring four goals in the process. He then moved to Italian side Parma. "Sadly my time with Parma was not that lucky, even though I signed for them and gave everything in each training session. The manager did not choose me for some reason, which is why I moved to Serie B side Torino FC where I played four matches.

I have known Paulo Sousa from my time in Portugal, and although he has never been my manager, he did see me play several times for the U21 side. I am pleased that he has thought about me and the chance arose that I could move to the Hungarian league from Palma on a loan deal. I am a midfield player, and I am used to playing on either wing. I am also comfortable playing at right back or even on the other side." - explained the new signing.
