Talking with new signing Evandro

The former Walsall, Manchester United and Benfica player joined Videoton this week

There has been big interest shown in the new signing of Evandro, who was introduced on Monday at the Sostoi stadium. The player will not feature in Wednesday's second leg match but he hopes to be available for the league match on Sunday with Paks.

- You were born in Angola but represented Portugal at youth level. How did you end up in Portugal?

My father was a footballer and I got the chance to play in Portugal when I was 7 years old. So we ended up making the move to that country. My family have since moved back to Angola, while my girlfriend is currently studying at a university in Portugal.

- What did it feel like to be at a club like Manchester United?

It was the best feeling in my life so far that I could get the chance to be a player at Manchester United. I played a total of three years there, and I spent the final year training with the first team squad. I built up a good relationship with my fellow nationals, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo. I also learned a lot from players like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs.

- You then joined Portuguese giants Benfica. Is it not a big difference to play in Hungary after Manchester United and Benfica?

I do not see it in that way. It is a step in my career, as I could have stayed in Benfica, but they have a 40 strong squad, and it is hard to develop further if your sitting on the bench. That is why I was pleased that Paulo Sousa wanted me to come to Videoton. He was my coach when I was playing for the Portuguese U16 side. His name is a guarantee that I have joined a good club, where the coaching staff and training is very professional. There are serious aims for the club, and this was another reason that I have moved to Hungary..

- Do you feel that Videoton have a chance to turn around the tie with Sturm Graz and progress into the next round?

I did not get the chance to see the first leg, although I would have liked to have seen it. I was on the way to Hungary at that time. I feel that we can come back from the two goal deficit. I can see in training that the players really want to make it through to the next round. I will hopefully get the chance to play a role in the next round, should we go through.

- There is a chance of you being available for our league game with Paks on Sunday?

Yes, that is correct, although I still feel that I need to work on my fitness, and catch up with the others. I am sure that I will quickly get back to 100%.

- What are your main strengths, what do you have that can help the team out?

My biggest asset is my pace. I like to arrive to meet crosses inside the box. I am also strong in the air. Hopefully I will be able to play well, and also set up goals as well as score many as well for Videoton.
