Report: 2-1 home win over Paks

Goals from Petryak and Kodro gave Vidi the three points on Friday evening.

Vidi hosted FC Paks at the MOL Arena Sósto on Friday evening. Manager Imre Szabics made three changes from the starting line-up of a week ago, with Kovács D. - Nego, Rus, Stopira, Heister - Szendrei, Makarenko - Funsho, Dárdai, Petryak - Kodro being trusted from the first minute, while György Bognár's starting XI included Olivér Tamás, who was transferred from Vidi in the summer, and the league's leading scorer in the form of Martin Ádám.

The teams started a bit cautiously, but in the 10th minute it took a great save by Gergely Nagy to prevent us from taking the lead - Petryak's left-wing cross from 13 metres was headed at goal by Szendrei, but the Paks keeper was on the spot to deal with it. In the 16th minute, however, Nagy was helpless, Dárdai passed to Petryak, who was well placed and our Ukrainian winger made no mistake as he connected with the low cross from the right (1-0).

Three minutes later Windecker tried to reply from 20 metres, Dániel Kovács was always in command but he did not have to make a save. In the 20th minute, Bognár elegantly lifted the ball into the net, but the assistant's flag was already up and it was ruled offside. With 24 minutes gone, Dárdai's free-kick was met by the head of Makarenko, but our midfielder's header failed to find the target. With 30 minutes on the clock, Funsho fired a sharp angle shot from 18 yards towards goal from a corner kick, Gergely Nagy making a diving save. A minute later, Sajbán's powerful 10-metre shot was saved by Dániel Kovács. In the 39th minute, our goalkeeper was again made to work as János Szabó was in a shooting position from 12 metres, but Kovács saved confidently, and soon afterwards the first half ended with Vidi enjoying a single goal lead.

At the break, György Bognár took off the yellow carded Kesztyűs, who was replaced by Richárd Nagy. Vidi boss Imre Szabics did not make any changes.

The second half began with a dynamic start, first Gergely Nagy made a great save from Kodro's shot (although it turned out that the effort would not have counted because of a foul), then at the other end, Dániel Kovács saved following individual play from Martin Ádám's. The action continued in front of the Paks goal, but Funsho's shot hit the goalpost, and Petryak's follow-up was saved by Nagy.

The teams did not rest after 60 minutes of play, first Kodro headed wide from 8 meters, and on the counter-attack Ádám Martin shot wide. Kodro was in position again with a chance as his low shot was well saved by Gergely Nagy, and from 11 metres Dániel Böde, who had replaced Olivier Tamás in the meantime, missed the target from a sharp angle. In the 64th minute Rus tried to tackle, but the ball only got as far as Martin Ádám, whose well-placed header was headed away for a corner by Kovács. It was another minute before Heister's centre was just inches wide of the advancing Kodro. Unfortunately, Paks were the better side in this period of the match, as Bognár's cross was headed in by Ádám Martin who flicked it past Kovács (1-1).

In the few minutes after the goal, the game was stopped twice due to the use of VAR (a Paks penalty and an offside were reviewed), but both times the correct decision of the referee was upheld and Dániel Kovács was allowed to take a kick and a free kick. However, in the 83rd minute we took the lead again! Petryak scrambled down the left, after receiving a nice ball from Szendrei and crossed into the middle, where Kodro arrived and hit a low shot into the net from close range (2-1)!

The goal was confirmed by VAR and there was also a change as Hangya replaced Ivan Petryak, who immediately received a yellow card for entering the field of play without permission according to the referee. We were already in the third minute of extra time when Nego's good ball put Zivzivadze in position, he outmuscled Nagy but drifted and shot into the side netting. Right at the end of the counter-attack, Richárd Nagy curled a shot from 16 towards towards the far corner, but Kovács made a great save, and after the five minutes of extra time, Ádám Farkas blew his whistle and we beat Paks 2-1!

Next Sunday we will play again at MOL Arena Sósto, when we face ZTE in a match that starts at 17:30.
