Mate Patkai: We brought out the maximum at the end of the season

The midfielder reflects back on a long season of football and ahead to European competition.

The team have just completed a difficult season, rising from a relegation place to end up in second position. How would you sum up the whole season?

The final match of the season at Ujpest mirrored our whole season. It started difficultly and the first half was really tough. We then found our feet in the second period and the solutions started to come. We had several up's and down's over the season, so I am pleased that we gained success at the end.

When the team was one off the bottom after 6 matches, would you have thought then that they would go on to secure second place?

I would not have believed it if someone would have told us back then. I feel that we brought out the maximum towards the end of the season. We started from very low and then climbed to second place. Thanks firstly goes to Tamas Peto, who took over the team at the lowest point, and naturally to Ferenc Horvath, who helped us to second in the league table.

What was the turning point when you first started to feel that a place in the top three could be achieved?

There were several turning points, and we could not give a balance performance. Perhaps the first push came in the match against Puskas Academy, when we came from 2-0 down to win 3-2. I feel that something started then.

How will you rest over the next few weeks?

I will spend it together with my family and friends. I want to relax and recharge myself. We will not be travelling but spend time at home with the kids. I will try and get the most out of my time together with them.

Second place means European football. How will the team do in the Europa League?

I feel that any side that starts in the Europa League would like to go as far as possible. I would not like to make any predictions about how many rounds we can go or whether we can make it to the group stage. We need to prepare for the qualifiers and then win a series of games, and try to get the most out of this possibility.
