Match Report: Two goal defeat at the home of Ferencvaros

Videoton lost 3-1 in the big autumn game. Danko Lazovic scored the goal for the Fehervar side.

The top two teams in the OTP league met on Saturday evening. First place Vidi travelled to Budapest to face second in the table Ferencvaros. Around 1200 visiting supporters made the journey to the capital to support their side. They also put on a spectacular show with the RBD supporters group celebrating their 25th year.

It was the home side that started the match the more active. Only good defending stopped the breakthrough in the first 25 minutes. Fejes, for example, had to head clear three times within a short period of time. Ferencvaros then took the lead on the half hour. A cross from the wing was headed out by Stopira, but Szpirovszki hit a good low shot from 18 meters that went in (1-0). The home side then extended their lead towards the end of the first half. A Lazovic free kick was headed out by the Fradi defence, and then went on a counter attack: Paintsil ran at Fiola and showed neat skill to beat him before the Ghana forward curled a shot into the corner (2-0).

Marko Nikolic made two changes at the start of the second period. Henty and then Suljic came on to add strength to the attack. The home side allowed Vidi to play and handed over the area to them, but the visiting side were unable to carve out a chance. That changed on 74 minutes when a lovely cross from Stopira was headed home by Lazovic, just ahead of keeper Dibusz (2-1).

Vidi pushed forward in attack in search of the equaliser, but a defensive error allowed substitute Moutari to score the third goal to make it 3-1. Henty hit the bar in the final minute, but the four minutes of injury time did not see any change to the score.

The win for FTC saw them draw level at the top of the table with Vidi, but the red and blues remain top thanks to a better goal difference. Videoton travel to Haladas next weekend in what is the final league game of the autumn season.
