Match Report: MOL Vidi and Paks share a 2-2 draw

Vidi levelled twice with goals from Stopira and Scepovic on Saturday evening at the home of Paks.

MOL Vidi FC travelled to 8th in the OTP league table Paksi FC on Saturday. The home side went into the game having won 2 of their last 5 while drawing 2 and losing the other. Vidi, in the same period, lost twice but won the last three league games to sit 6 points behind leaders Ferencvaros. The Paks stadium has been totally rebuilt lately and the game kicked off with 3 new stands in operation and the former main stand being demolished on the far side with work underway to build a new stand.

Vidi were in their light all blue kit as the game kicked off at a good pace with the home side the more active in the early exchanges. There were 12 minutes on the clock when Hahn got hold of the ball 18 meters from goal. His shot went wide of Adam Kovacsik's goal. A corner for Paks ended with Gevay at the far post shooting powerfully across goal for Papp to shoot at goal from close range, but Patkai was on hand to head off the goal line in what was a very good clearance for Vidi.

It was Paks that went ahead after 23 minutes. Hahn shot at goal from a tight angle, which hit the bar, and the rebound bounced inside the box, which Hahn eventually converted into the bottom of the net to make it 1-0.

Remili had a chance on goal for Paks after 30 minutes and his shot from 16 meters went just wide of the target. Vidi were back in the game after 35 minutes with the equalising goal: The fifth corner for the visitors was taken by Huszti and Stopira was unmarked to head the ball into the corner to make it 1-1.

However, Paks regained the lead just before half time when Konyves received a good ball, and despite pressure from Nego, placed the ball in to the bottom left corner to make it 2-1. The two sides went in at the break with Paks in the lead. Neither manager made changes to his side at the break. The second half started with a Nego cross that caused danger inside the home box. Keeper Nagy failed to collect the ball and could only punch it, before a defender cleared. Konyves at the other end brought a save out of Kovacsik. Vidi levelled for the second time on 56 minutes: Kovacs brought the ball inside on the right, before finding Huszti with a pass and his header landed in front of Nego, whose shot was saved by keeper Nagy. The ball eventually fell to Scepovic and he turned and curled a lovely shot into the bottom left corner to make it 2-2. It was a fine effort from a tight angle that bent in wonderfully.

Patkai cleared off the goal line for the second time in the game two minutes later. A header from Fejes was hacked clear my the midfielder. The counter attack ended with Scepovic in with a chance, but his shot was saved by the Paks keeper. A long range Konyves shot after 77 minutes went over the bar as Milanov came on and soon had a very good chance. He moved well with the ball before shooting from 11 meters, but again the home keeper did well to deny Vidi after 80 minutes.

The action continued in what was an exciting NB I match. There were no further goals as both sides collected a point. Ferencvaros are the next opponents in the Hungarian Cup on Wednesday evening.
