Match Report: 2-0 win against Budafok as Vidi make the semi-finals

An owngoal from Romic and a goal from Stopira earned Vidi a 2-0 win over Budafok on Wednesday afternoon.

Budafok were the visitors in the MOL Hungarian Cup quarter-finals in Szekesfehervar. The tie would be decided over one game and caretaker manager Tamas Szalai chose the following starting line-up: Kovács D. - Bolla, Rus, Stopira, Hangya - Pinto, Fiola - Nego, Houri, Petryak - Szabó L. It was the fourth time that we faced Budafok with the two sides meeting most recently on Sunday. That game ended in a 2-1 away win for Vidi.

The first action of the match came after 3 minutes. Szabo making the visiting keeper sweat but he managed to clear the danger. The young forward had another chance after 12 minutes as his curling shot from 15 meters went over the bar. Vidi had a corner midway through the first half, which ended with Stopira heading at goal from distance, but it brought a good save out of Poser. Budafok had their first effort shortly after. Kulcsar sending his free kick across the face of the goal. Romic then had a chance but his shot from 7 meters flew over the bar. A Houri corner on 36 minutes was met by the head of Stopira, but again it went over the bar. The two sides went in at the break with the score at 0-0.

Budafok made four changes at half time while Vidi ran out with the same eleven. Skribek shot low from distance after 47 minutes with the first chance of the second half. His strike being confidently collected by Kovacs in the home goal. Not long after and there was a chance at the other end as Petryak shot wide from close range. We placed more pressure on the visiting goal as the minutes passed. Pinto's cross saw Vaszicsku clear the danger ahead of the pouncing Nego. Houri sent a shot on 63 minutes over the crossbar. The breakthrough arrived after 68 minutes: Pinto putting in a good ball from the left, which was met by birthday boy Zivzivadze, but it was defender Romic who had the last contact to send the ball into his own net (1-0).

We did not have to wait too long for the second goal, which arrived 10 minutes later. Dardai curling a ball into the box from the right and the unmarked Stopira made no mistake with his head to guide the ball home (2-0).

That second goal virtually decided the cup ties with a Pinto shot after 79 minutes being blocked. Petryak also sent a shot into the side-netting a minute later. Zivzivadze had a good chance after 84 minutes but he could not beat keeper Poser. The final whistle went and Vidi progress to the next round thanks to a 2-0 home win at the MOL Arena Sosto. The draw for the semi-finals will be made tonight by the Hungarian FA.
