Videoton picked up the three points on Wednesday evening to go level on points with Ferencvaros.
Videoton travelled to Budapest Honved on Wednesday in the rearranged OTP league match. The original game was postponed due to bad weather at the start of March. Honved went into the fixture having won their last three home games in a row. Vidi had not managed a win on the road in the last three fixtures. The importance of the game was confirmed by the fact that three points to Videoton would see them go level on points with first place Ferencvaros. Marko Nikolic chose the same team as he had done most recently at home to Ujpest. There was a change on the bench with Marko Scepovic replacing Szolnoki.
The first chance of the game fell on 15 minutes. Stopira had possession of the ball near the Honved box, before finding Lazovic, who played a lovely ball to Stefan, but the forward rolled his effort wide of the post from 7 meters. Lazovic controlled a 22nd minute Nikolov long ball, before turning and shooting at goal, but Grof saved the chance. The home keeper was well placed to deal with a Juhasz header after 34 minutes, while a minute later, he could do nothing as Vidi went ahead. Lanzafame was penalized for a foul and Huszti sent the ball forward for Lazovic to flick on towards Nikolov. The Macedonian midfielder kept his composure to tuck the ball past Grof and make it 0-1. It was his first goal in Videoton colours since joining the club in the winter window. Videoton almost made it two moments later. A Lazovic cross ended with Nikolov only just failing to make contact with it. It was the final action of the first half as the teams went in at the break.
Neither manager made changes at half time. The second period started with Nikolov requiring treatment for a couple of minutes. The Macedonian then showed good movement on 54 minutes, but he could not convert the chance. The pressure continued on the home goal with a Nego cross finding the head of Lazovic, who sent the ball into the corner of the net to leave the keeper stranded (0-2).
The home side came back into it three minutes later when a Nagy free kick ended with Kamber heading across goal. Lanzafame reacted quickest to slide in and score with Kovacsik beaten although he did get his hand to it (1-2).
Videoton reacted well to quickly score and restore their two goal advantage. Huszti curled a good corner into the box and Vinicius stuck out his leg to send the ball into the far corner (1-3). Stopira found the net a minute later but it was ruled offside and the score remained 1-3. The score increased in favour of Videoton when Lazovic shot home following good build up play from Stefan. The Serbian forward made no mistake to make it 1-4. Scepovic could have scored a goal towards the end but his close range shot was well saved by Grof.
The win saw Vidi draw level on points at the top with FTC. The last time the two sides were on the same amount of points was back in match 18 of the season. The league continues on Saturday as Videoton head east to play Mezokovesd.
