Videoton picked up maximum points in the heavy rain at Mezokovesd on Sunday evening.
Match 4 of the OTP league season saw Vidi make the visit to Mezokovesd on Sunday evening. The Fehervar side had yet to record a win at that stadium in games between the two over the years. There had been a 1-1 draw and a 2-1 defeat against the yellow and blues. Manager Marko Nikolic had to make do without Roland Juhasz, who had to miss out with a slight knock. That meant a central defensive partnership of Fiola and Fejes. Danko Lazovic wore the captains armband as the teams ran out.
The storm clouds were already forming at the time of kick off with heavy rain pouring down from 12 minutes on. It meant both teams having to not only compete against each other but also with the elements. Plenty of extra water did not have an impact on a good pitch and there was never any threat of the referee having to stop play during the game.
Henty received a good ball on 11 minutes following good link up play, but a home defender managed to slide in at the last second to deny him. Suljic broke into the box on 23 minutes, before crossing low from the right for Henty to run in and connect with and place the ball into the back of the net (0-1).
Keita fouled Varga on the half hour mark, with the referee showing a yellow instead of a red card after making contact with the midfielders face. The closing moments of the first half saw the Vidi forwards make former keeper Tujvel work. Henty tried first from 18 meters with a powerful left foot shot, which produced an acrobatic tip over. Minutes later, Lazovic aimed for just under the bar but again Tujvel was equal to it.
The teams came out for the second half without any changes. Vidi enjoyed more of the ball in the opening 10 minutes of the second period but without forcing a chance on goal. That changed after 57 minutes when Henty centred for Lazovic, who tried to shoot at goal, but without luck. The Nigerian forward then fell to the floor after chasing a ball and he was forced to come off and replaced by Mirko Maric. The home side then had a couple of chances after 72 minutes. Goher was first to send his free kick off a defender and away for a corner. Keita then volleyed over the bar from in front of goal. Kovacsik was on hand to save a minute later from home forward Strestik.
With 8 minutes remaining of the game. Maric found himself with a chance from 15 minutes, but curled a shot over the bar. Keita was close to being sent off after a bad challenge on Szolnoki but remained on the pitch. The game was made safe with 5 minutes remaining. Nego went down the right and crossed the ball into the path of Lazovic, who found the top right corner from 12 meters to make it (0-2).
There was not further change to the scoreline and Vidi picked up a good three points to claim their first ever win at the new stadium. Debrecen visit the Pancho Arena next Saturday evening.
