Szabo's goal in the first half was enough to settle the match against Dukla.
The club's UEFA cup run started in front of 8000 at the Sostoi stadium, where Czechoslovakian side Dukla Prague were the visitors.
We started the better with Novath twice having chances in the 10th and 12th minute. The first was blocked by a defender, before heading over from inside the box. The Prague side relied on defending, and they were well marshalled by the international pairing of Rada and Fiala. They could do nothing in the 37th minute, Majer passed to Csongradi, and the club captain sent the ball into the middle, before Szabo got hold of the ball and could see as Stromsik moved, so the forward aimed for the right corner, with the keeper's leg making contact, but the ball nestled in to the back of the net. (1-0).
Vadasz had a shot a few minutes later that just went wide, while keeper Koszta produced a good save towards the end of the first half. He tipped a Rada shot from 20 meters out for a corner. Vidi went in at the break with a goal lead.
The second half started as the first had ended, with a Koszta save from a powerful Viger shot. The Czech side then increased the tempo, but they could not create a chance of note. It is true that Vidi also rarely troubled keeper Stromsik. The biggest chance came in the 75th minute, when Novath shot at goal, following a cross from Vadasz. The visiting keeper produced a very good save.
Dukla came close to levelling on 86 minutes. Vizek shot from 12 meters, but it was saved by Koszta, with the rebound ending at the feet of Vana, who from 5 meters hit the post.
The game ended with the home side conceding a goal, with Szabo giving Vidi a slender lead to take in to the second leg. We knew that a very difficult 90 minutes lay ahead at the Na Julisce stadium on the 2nd October, and this is how it turned out.
