A comfortable 4-1 aggregate win in the Europa League

Vidi drew 1-1 on the night with Kalju FC and will now face French opponents in the next round.

Videoton went into Thursday evenings second leg leading 3-0 from the game a week ago in Tallinn. Estonian side Kalju FC were the visitors for this 21.00pm kick off. Goals from Patkai and a double from Scepovic secured a first leg win and gave Vidi a comfortable lead to take into the return leg. Manager Marko Nikolic was celebrating his 38th birthday and he was looking for his team to give him the perfect present. He made changes to the side that played in the Estonian capital. Mirko Maric and Jozsef Varga came in to start. Before the team had even kicked off, it became known that Vidi were the last remaining Hungarian side in European competition as FTC went out over two legs in Denmark. Honved and Vasas had already been knocked out.

The first ten minutes passed by without any serious chance in front of either goal. There was a good atmosphere inside the stadium that was being created by both sets of fans. The 11th minute saw a curling ball in from a corner from Lazovic, which was not cleared by keeper Londak, and Nego chose to centre instead of shoot. The ball ended up at the feet of Stopira and he found Lazovic, whose shot went wide of the target. Kalju had a chance after 18 minutes when Valikajev received the ball and shot at goal, but it needed a goal line clearance from Vinicius to clear the danger.

Vinicius then suffered an injury after 24 minutes and the international defender was forced to come off. Andras Fejes came on to replace him at the heart of defence. The action continued a minute later following a long throw that was flicked on by Juhasz inside the box, which finally ended with Nego heading at goal from close range. That produced a good save from Estonian keeper Londak. There was a good chance on the half hour mark from a free kick that Stopira connected with to head at goal, but it was blocked by the keeper. He also suffered an injury that required several minutes treatment before finally having to come off. Videoton took the lead after 37 minutes: Suljic sent in a lovely cross for Lazovic to head home from 7 meters to make it 1-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate.

There was still a chance to increase the lead before half time when Juhasz headed just wide following a ball in from Lazovic. The teams went in at the break with Vidi leading by a single goal. The visitors were awarded a penalty after 50 minutes. The Kalju forward went down besides Varga and Mario Zebev pointed at the spot. Dimitrijev calmly sent the ball into the corner of the net 1-1.

Maric sent an impressive sciccor kick that only just missed the target as the action continued. 19 year old substitute Bence Szabo came on after 60 minutes for his Europa League debut. Maric had a good chance after a one-two on 78 minutes before shooting across the face of goal and wide of the far post from a tight angle. With 2 minutes remaining, the substitue Kalju keeper pulled off a very good save from Juhasz. Szabo also had a shot that was kept out by the visitors and the score remained 1-1 on the night.

Vidi comfortable made it through to the next round and remain the only Hungarian side left in the competition. French side Bordeaux await in round 3. The first leg will be next week in France, with the return leg on the 3rd August in Felcsut. Videoton are next in action as the visiting team at the Pancho Arena on Sunday. The match kicks off at 18:00pm in the second OTP league game of the season.
