Hungary won 4-1 away in Andorra on Wednesday evening to make it 7 points from their opening three qualifiers.
Hungary played their third 2020 WC qualifier on Wednesday evening when they visitied Andorra. It was the fifth time they had met them. Hungary started with Fiola, Hangya and Nikolic and it was two Vidi players who combined for the opening goal. That came close to half time when Nikolic sent the ball back into the middle for Fiola to rise unmarked to head home. It was his first goal for his country.
Nikolic had a hand in the second goal, which arrived shortly after the start of the second half. His cross into the middle was headed home by Gadzag. Things got even better after 58 minutes when Kleinheisler received a good ball from Nagy, and made no mistake to make it 3-0. There was still time for a fourth goal and it came from another Vidi player.
With 90 minutes on the clock, Varga curled a good free kick on to the post, which Nego reacted fastest to to bundle the ball home from close range 4-0. Andorra were awarded a penalty right on full time and Pujol rolled it in to make it 4-1 on the night.
Hungary have picked up 7 points from 9 to sit in second place behind England.
Attila Fiola spoke to M4 Sport shortly after the full time whistle:
"We played on a hard pitch as we rarely play football on artificial grass. We didn't play well in the first 20 minutes, and our opponent attacked us, we tried to get the ball out, maybe we should have played towards Ádám Szalai more. I’m glad we managed to take the lead at the end of the first half. I remember so well from the goal that I was in the position and saw that Nikolic arched the ball back in nicely and I focused on overtaking the home defender, luckily it worked and I was able to head the ball into the goal. After our second goal, the match was decided and by then we were able to play the game we wanted from the beginning."
