Zoltan Kovacs on the penalty incidents at the end of the game

The Videoton Director of Football, Team Manager and Istvan Kovacs all spoke about the penalty incidents at the end of the match.

Videoton picked up a 3-0 win against Ujpest FC on Saturday evening at the Pancho Arena in Felcsut. The end of that game saw two penalties awarded to Vidi. The first resulted in Istvan Kovacs shooting over the bar, while the second moments later was saved by Filip Pajovics. There are several issues that are attached to these incidents, which perhaps the supporters are not aware of, which is why Zoltan Kovacs, Marko Nikolic spoke at the press conference after the game.

"I was already down by the pitch and saw the events from close up. I think it speaks volumes that our top goalscorer Danko Lazovic, who is also battling for the top scorer in Hungary, without a word, handed the ball over to Istvan Kovacs, who had suffered several injuries before pre-season. He wanted to help his team mate score a goal in a league match. It was so pleasing to see not only the players but also Marko Nikolic show the number 10 with their fingers when the second penalty was given moments after the first had been missed. The crowd also applauded on their feet for Koko to take the second penalty. I told Kovacs after the game to keep his head up and next time have the confidence to take it again if the situation arises" - commented Zoltan Kovacs, Director of Football.

"You have to know that Marko Scepovic, Danko Lazovic and Szabolcs Huszti are the usual penalty takers. Marko missed the game because of illness, while the other two players were not on the pitch at the time the second one was awarded. Koko twice took confident penalties during the pre-season games, so he deserved to take it. He also performed really well in last week's league game against Puskas. You can also write down that my opinion of Istvan Kovacs has not changed one bit because of the two penalties. Not as a player or as a person and we continue to put our trust in him. If the nominated players are no longer on the pitch, then he can calmly take a penalty again in the future" - commented manager Marko Nikolic.

Istvan Kovacs spoke about the events on his Facebook page:

Where should I start.... it happened that I missed two penalties in a game. It was very important for me personally to score, but I did not manage to. It is a pity but I still want to thank my team mates, the coaching staff and the supporters. You feel so low as a person when you miss but at the same time it is so uplifting for me. You always have to stand up and look these things straight on. You have to remain faithful to yourself and those that are watching, as you can only really laugh about this, which is one of my favourite sayings: "A person can only be a real adult if they can laugh at themselves."
