Win over Haladas as the battle for the title with Honved continues

Goals from Nego and Geresi secured the win as Honved also won at Mezokovesd.

Videoton took on fifth in the table Haladas at Felcsut on Saturday. Henning Berg could not count on Mate Patkai, who had to miss the game with a muscle strain. His place in the team went to Roland Szolnoki in what was the only change from the win a week ago over Debrecen. Director of football Zoltan Kovacs handed over a gift to defender Stopira. He was celebrating his 100th appearance in the Hungarian first division.

The game kicked off with Vidi in their familiar red and blue kit. The first chance arrived on 4 minutes when Jancso played a nice ball to Williams, who took the ball alone towards goal, but the Videoton keeper pulled off a good save from 14 meters. Hadzic then tried his luck after 10 minutes from 18 meters, as he hit a volley that went wide of the goal. Vidi took the lead after 17 minutes: Szolnoki aimed his shot at Haladas keeper Gabor Kiraly, but the ball came off a defender and fell into the path of Nego, who showed good skill to find the bottom corner and make it 1-0.

Nego almost had the chance to score his second minutes later and double the home sides lead. The French player was involved in a move on 34 minutes. Lazovic found Fiola with a lovely ball, and he cut the ball back for Nego, who hit a volley that went just wide of the post. There was still time in the first period for Jancso to try his luck from distance for the visitors, but it was comfortably saved by Kovacsik. Lazovic also sent a curling free kick wide of the post from 23 meters.

The second half kicked off with Vidi ahead by a single goal. The first part of the second period saw the final pass on occasions lacking the precision. Both sides could not create any serious chance in front of goal. Haladas player Racz had a very good chance on 82 minutes, but his close range shot again failed to beat the in form Kovacsik. Substitute Geresi came on and 10 minutes later settled the match. Nego went down the right and went alone towards Kiraly, but he chose to pass instead of shoot, and with a little bit of fortune, Geresi managed to beat his marker before finding the net from 9 meters to make it 2-0.

There was no further change to the score as Vidi ran out 2-0 winners. Honved won 5-1 away at Mezokovesd, which means that they remain in top place with three games left. Vidi and the Budapest side are now in a battle for the league title. Videoton travel next weekend to Ujpest while Honved take on MTK at home.
