We spoke to our team captain, Aron Csongvai, about last week's hard matches, the new formation and his one-on-one chat with Tamás Pető.
We have had a serious test of strength, playing two league and one cup game in a week. How do you feel physically?
I'm fine. Of course, the last week has been very demanding and I played all three games. It helps a lot to recover because we've had good results, always coming off the pitch in a positive way. It hasn't been an easy week, but I like this kind of challenge, if we can play as many matches as possible in a short time, that's why we are professional athletes. The most important thing is that we won all three games, we have to continue like that.
We're on a three-match winning streak, we've won two league games, we've also gone through to the next round in the cup, and we've come from behind twice in a couple of days. What is the reason for this good form?
It's not very positive that we went behind on several occasions, but the way we came back and turned those games around is. I think we have started on a path that has made us a much stronger and more resilient team. We go on the pitch with a mentality that maybe we didn't have before. We're clearly fighting for each other and helping each other out on the pitch. We still have a lot of room for improvement, but I've seen this positive change in the whole team since the last game. This is the basis from which it follows that we can turn games around from a losing position or knock our opponents out in the last minutes.
The three-man defensive system works very well, it looked good already in the game against Ferencváros. Since then the results have been coming. How do you see why this is better than the previous formation? What plus does it bring to the team?
It's one of the things that got the team going in the right direction. As I said before, we changed our approach, but we also needed the new formation to get us out of the slump. We could see already against Fradi that it suits the team better, it suits the style of the squad much better. In the new formation we found the positions we can fill, the players fit into this system much better. We're getting used to it and getting used to it match by match, and the results are coming. We've changed our mentality and structure and that's the key to our success.
Not only the team, you have also had some excellent matches. How has your role changed? How do you feel in this system?
Actually my role has only changed slightly, I'm still playing the same defensive midfield position. In the new line-up I have to be more careful to fill the holes in the defence; if someone leaves the defensive line or joins the attack. In addition to supplementing the defence, I can also get forward more often to help the attack. It's particularly pleasing to see this in the stats. It feels good to give assists and score goals, but the most important thing is that I can help the team to achieve better results. I'm happy that both of those things happened last week.
Tamás Pető mentioned at the press conference after the Debrecen win that you had a very serious one-to-one meeting a couple of weeks ago. Can you give us a broad outline of what was discussed?
That's right, we sat down to talk and I can tell you that it was very good for me and for the whole team. Exactly what was said is between the two of us, but the point is that we realised what a serious downturn we were in and we definitely needed to stop it. We drew a line and talked through what we needed to change to get us moving in the right direction. This discussion was necessary, especially regarding my game and my role. After watching our games, I think we got the result. However, it is very important not to be satisfied with this, not to get comfortable, but to carry this fire forward to the continuation. I expect the same attitude from myself and my teammates in the next matches.
Let's move on to the weekend, our next opponent will be Diósgyőr away. We managed to beat the Borsod side in the cup, but we can expect a new clash in the league with a completely different starting line-up. What do you expect from this match?
I expect a very difficult match and not only because we are away. Diósgyőr is a massive opponent, full of good players. We are really preparing for a different match than the one in the cup. I'm sure they will be motivated to fight back from previous defeats. We've prepared for them, we've analysed them, but the most important thing is to focus on our own game and then we can succeed. We need to draw strength from the positives we achieved last week, we need to go onto the pitch with the same attitude to get a good result.
Finally, about the fans, what does their support mean to you?
Our fans mean a lot to us! Their attitude is unbelievable, when we got into a negative streak they didn't have a bad word to say, they just cheered us on week after week, even when we weren't performing like that. When the results didn't come, they were always there to help us, they definitely helped us get out of the slump and start to climb. It's a journey together, we count on them to continue. I hope that together we will achieve better results.
