Two goals from Hodzic and further strikes from Funsho, Houri and Nikolic earned Vidi a 5-2 aggregate win over ZTE.
Vidi were in Hungarian Cup action on Wednesday evening at the MOL Arena Sosto. Visitors were ZTE, who were up against the red and blues for the third time in a short period of time. The first leg a week ago ended in a 2-0 defeat so Vidi knew that they would have to score goals and win big to make it through to the last four. They did not disappoint with another very good performance.
A corner after 7 minutes, which was taken by Houri, was powerfully headed home by Hodzic to make it 1-0. It was just the start that Vidi needed to make and they continued to put their foot on the pedal.
Funcho had a chance after 11 minutes, as did Musliu a couple of minutes later, but neither found the target. ZTE did have a chance to level after 20 minutes. However, Babati just failed to connect with a low cross from Ostrek. The action continued and Vidi drew level in the tie after 26 minutes. A low cross from the left by Petryak was met by Funsho and he made no mistake to make it 2-0.
A wonderful goal three minutes later by Houri made it 3-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate. The midfielder shooting from 24 meters and giving visiting keeper Demjen no chance. A really good goal making sure that the supporters inside the stadium where kept on their feet. Houri found Petryak with a good ball after 33 minutes, but Demjen did well to deny his low shot. The two sides went in at the break with the score at 3-0.
A cross from Stieber after 8 minutes of the second half was met by the head of Ikoba, but Kovacsik was alert in the home goal to save. Petryak showed good skill moments later before shooting at goal from 15 meters, but Demjen was equal to it and the keeper kept it out. Vidi scored their fourth goal after 61 minutes: Hodzic found Petryak on the left, who played it into the middle for Nikolic to shoot on goal, but it came off a defender on the goal line, which was quickly pounced on by Hodzic, who powerfully hit it home to make it 4-0.
ZTE went forward on 62 minutes and a cross from Kocsis was headed over the bar by Ikoba. Babati also tested Kovacsik. Vidi confidently defended their lead and the game quietened down for a period. However, that changed with 3 minutes left when a counter attack ended with Petryak finding Nikolic. The Vidi forward volleying at goal from 17 meters out, before rebounding off a defender and going out for a corner. A corner from Petryak was flicked on by Futacs and into the path of Nikolic, who from close range made it 5-0.
The final whistle blew and MOL Fehervar FC comfortably made it through to the last four of the Hungarian Cup. They will face Mezokovesd in the semi-finals.
