The score was 0-0 at both full time and extra time and it was Vidi who kept their nerve to make it through to the next round.
In the 3rd qualifying round of the Europa League, the French Stade de Reims visited MOL Arena Sosto on Thursday evening. The French side won 1-0 at the home of Swiss Servette in the previous round, but have not done well in the French league so far, starting the season with three defeats in addition to a draw. Manager Gabor Marton chose the following eleven: Kovácsik - Bolla, Musliu, Stopira, Fiola, Nego, Houri, Nikolov, Hangya, Zivzivadze, Petryak.
Outside the MOL Arena Sosto, about 100 enthusiastic Vidi fans gathered, cheering so loudly that everything could be heard inside the stadium, which must have given the players of Fehervar that extra strength. We had to wait almost 20 minutes for the first chance, but then in a short time a dangerous situation developed in front of both goals. First Budu Zivzivadze had a chance, but the French defender managed to tackle him at the last minute, then at the other side Zeneli showed trickery inside our box, before finally shooting from 14 meters, Fiola selflessly threw himself into the path of a high-powered shot to block it.
In the 24th minute, Hangya gave a great ball to Houri, who took it on and then powerfully hit a shot from a tight angle from 14 meters that went above the goal. Three minutes later and midfielder Nikolov's long range shot was saved by Rajkovic, then after half an hour of play Houri curled a free kick from 25 meters barely past the goal, meaning we had more chances in the first half, as there was no further chances at either end for the remainder of the half.
The French started the second half more actively, in the 49th minute Abdelhamid shot from 20 meters wide of our goal. In the 58th minute we had our biggest chance of the match, Bolla sent in a flat cross into the middle, which Nego connected with but he shot over the goal from 10 meters. In the 73rd minute, Houri's corner bounced off one of the visitors' defenders dangerously, but Rajkovic was able to save it. Two minutes before the end of regular time, Hodzic and Evandro were able to take the ball towards goal, with the Bosnian striker choosing to take the ball on instead of a pass, and finally he was tackled. The counter attack saw Sierhuis shoot at goal from 8 meters, but Kovacsik was well placed to save.
The referee blew for the end of normal time and a period of 2x15 minutes extra time followed. Rajkovic comfortably saved a low shot from Hodzic five minutes into extra time. Toure did have a shot from 13 meters at goal in the first half of time added on but Kovacsik saved with a great stop.
Donis shot from 15 meters on 110 minutes with his powerful shot going just over while Chavalerin saw his effort go wide from 18 meters. There was still time for a long range free kick that sailed over the bar. The visitors tired towards the end and Foket saw his second yellow, which meant he received a red card and the French were reduced to ten men.
The penalty shootout followed. Rajokovic got a hand to Evandro's first spot kick but it went in (1-0). Dia saw his penalty saved by Kovacsik while Stopira powerfully hit home his spot kick (2-0). Kovacsik again saved Abdelhamid's effort and Hodzic made no mistake to make it 3-0.
Konan scored for Reims but Nego made no mistake to see Vidi through 4-1 and a place in the Play-off's of the Europa League.
