Vidi lose out in five goal thriller

Kecskemet come out on top against Videoton in the Hungarian cup final

Videoton started slowly against a Kecskemet side who had plenty of pace up front. Vidi failed to produce the football that they know they are capable of, and in the end, KTE fully deserved their win.

Kecskeméti TE - Videoton FC 3-2 (2-0)
Goalscorers: Foxi (2,14, 80)  Cukic OG (48), Nikolics (82')

Kecskeméti: Rybansky - Gyagya, Radanovic, Balogh, Mohl - Ebala, Cukic (Bertus 90'), Litsingi, Bori - Tököli (Dosso 86'), Foxi (Savic 91')
Videoton FC: Sebők - Lázár, Lipták, Vaskó, Elek - Polonkai (Vasziljevics 46'), Sándor, Farkas (Szakály 59'), Gosztonyi (Lencse 70') - Nikolics, Alves

Videoton failed to make it a league and cup double at the Ferenc Puskas stadium on Tuesday evening. It was Kecskemet who began the brighter, going into an early lead thanks to the alert Foxi. That opening goal came as early as the second minute, and it seemed to stun the league champions. Things got worse when Foxi scored his second of the night to make it 2-0 after just fourteen minutes. It was a lead that KTE were never going to surrender, and kept all the way until half time. Manager Gyorgy Mezey made several changes with Sebok keeping goal, and Akos Elek switching to left back, to accomodate the central midfield pairing of Sandor and Farkas. He kept Nikolics up front with Alves, but they failed to break through the stubborn violets defence.

In the end Vidi failed to make it another night of celebrations with the attention now switching to Sunday's league match at Ujpest. Vidi came up short on Tuesday night, despite good following from a noisy red and blue army. Videoton now have a few days to pick themselves up and move on from this cup final. Kecskemet will now play in the Europa cup in the summer for the first time in their history.
