Vidi hit Partizan for five!

Jozsef Szabo scored 4 goals with Majer also scoring a lovely goal to give Vidi an excellent chance of going through.

The UEFA Cup tie at the Sostoi Stadium against Partizan was played in front of 20,000 supporters. The Yugoslavian side had previously knocked out English side QPR on the away goals rule following a 6-6 aggregate score. Vidi had progressed past Paris Saint-Germain with a 5-2 result over two legs.

The first real moment of action in the game came on 8 minutes when Novath found Burcsa on the right, who crossed in to the middle but Omerovic got hold of the ball ahead of Szabo. Szabo then turned well towards goal shortly after and hit a left footed shot over from 13 meters. He made no mistake after 12 minutes: Burcso crossed from the right, which was met with a right footed shot from Szabo who found the back of the net. (1-0).

Disztl saved a Mance effort on 14 minutes, while Radanovic saw his shot go wide after 28 minutes. Szabo found himself with a chance on the half hour, but his close range shot went wide of the mark. There were further chances towards the end of the first period. Horvath and then Szabo tested Omerovic, but it was Vidi that went in at the break with a 1-0 lead.

There was a dream start to the second half. Csongradi released Majer on 48 minutes down the left, which the winger then crossed in to the centre for Szabo to confidently score to make it 2-0.

Things got even better a minute later when the score became 3-0. Burcsa was fouled by Kalicanin inside the area. Szabo hit his left footed penalty towards the keepers left.

Partizan tried to get back in to the match, but as they came forward in search of a consolation, it gave Vidi the chance to hit them on the counter attack. Majer found Novath on 74 minutes, whose high ball in to the centre was met by Szabo, who made no mistake from close range to make it 4-0.

The icing on the cake arrived on 80 minutes. Majer stole the ball from Radovic on the right, before cutting in towards the area, beating 2 defenders and then surprising the keeper with a shot that found the back of the net! 5-0!

Novath still had time to hit a sweet shot that came crashing back off the post with 5 minutes remaining. The final score was 5-0. Vidi produced fantastic football to take a very big advantage into the second leg in Belgrade.
