Vidi comfortably make it through to the next round

Vidi beat Vac 3-1 to make it through to the next round of the Hungarian Cup.

Eleven months after Vac knocked Vidi out of the Hungarian Cup, the two sides came face to face on Wednesday evening in Ujpest. The match was played at a neutral stadium, which was the case last season, but this time it was the Ferenc Szusza stadium in Budapest.

Vidi had beaten Cigand in the previous round and met Vac in the middle of a series of matches for Marko Nikolic' side. Vac had the first chance on 2 minutes when Zsolnai went down the right, before cutting in and shooting. The ball went wide of the left post but it was an early warning sign. Two quick goals arrived in the minutes that followed. Hangya received the ball on the right and hit a powerful left footed shot after 8 minutes, which keeper Peter Halasi could not keep out. The ball nestled in the back of the net and Vidi led 1-0 on the night. However, the lead did not last long and a minute later the score was level. Zsolnai controlled the ball and found the corner of the net from 12 meters (1-1).

A Kovacs pass after 19 minutes found Hodzic, who shot over from 15 meters. The action continued and the Bosnian forward was again involved in front of goal 10 minutes later. A promising move ended with a shot into the side netting. There was no mistake on the half hour mark when Hodzic reacted well inside the box to control and then shoot beyond the keeper to make it 1-2.

It did not only mean Vidi taking the lead for the second time in the game, but it was also the first goal for Hodzic in a Vidi shirt. The Fehervar side continued to direct things for the remainder of the first half. There were good moves but either the final pass was missing or the Vac defenders managed to clear the danger as the sides went in at the break with the score at 1-2.

The general picture in the second half did not change too much. Vidi comfortably defender their lead and also had some dangerous attacks in front of the Vac goal. Hangya sent in a good cross after 58 minutes, which Scepovic rose to meet and head home to make it 1-3. Hangya was then challenged and fell to the floor a couple of minutes later inside the Vac box, but the referee waved play on.

Vidi keeper Tujvel was called upon after 71 minutes to save a powerful shot from a tight angle, before Zsolnai sent a shot over the bar from a free kick. Murai controlled a pass moments later, and the ball went to Kakonyi, whose shot from 20 meters went wide of the left post. Hadzic hit a 30 meters shot at goal after 76 minutes, but it flew just over the bar. Vac keeper Halasi then did really well to deny Scepovic, whose effort was heading for the bottom left corner. The remaining minutes resulted in Vidi enjoying the upper hand but there were no further goals.

Vidi enjoyed revenge for last season's game and the draw for the next round will be held on Wednesday evening.
