A goal from full back Stopira secured the three points for Videoton on Wednesday evening.
FTC won the league title several weeks ago as they visited the Pancho Arena on Wednesday. Bottom placed Puskas Academy picked up an away win at MTK, while Debrecen and Ujpest failed to pick up wins on the same evening, which meant that Vidi had a great chance to take advantage and move closer to second place. That required Videoton to beat Ferencvaros, which is something they have not been able to do lately.
Ferenc Horvath made several changes to his starting line-up, with Adam Lang coming in to start the game. Haraszti dropped down to the bench, while Szolnoki began at right back and Nego in front of him. Geresi was the lone striker against the visiting defence.
The first real chance arrived in the 22nd minute: Trinks curled a dangerous freekick over from 17 meters. Good link up play moments later saw Nego release Oliveira, who showed good skill, before curling the ball at goal from a tight angle. However, a defender was able to hook the ball clear from virtually his own goal line.
The action continued on 27 minutes when Varga took a freekick from 18 meters out. The ball took a deflection off the wall, but Danilovics was able to pull off a very good save to deny him. As half time approached the tension rose and referee Solymosi handed out 3 yellow cards in 3 minutes. The second half kicked off with both sides trying to get the breakthrough. The first real chance arrived 10 minutes into the second period for the visitors: a ball in from the left found Busai, who from two meters out, blasted the ball well over the bar. Vidi took advantage of that miss and went down the other end to take the lead. Geresi curled a dangerous ball in, which Stopira finally connected with from close range to scramble the ball home (1-0).
Patkai took the ball beyond keeper Jova on 69 minutes, and shot at goal from 12 meters, but the FTC keeper managed to do well and save. There were a couple of long distance efforts inside the final ten minutes, but Danilovics coped well with anything that came his way. He kept his second clean sheet just as he did days earlier away at Paks.
The win took Vidi up to third in the league table, with just two points between second placed MTK. Vidi face them next on Saturday at the Pancho Arena, with kick off at 18:00pm.
