Videoton will face Paris Saint-Germain in a pre-season friendly

Vidi will come up against the star French side on the 12th July, with a 17:00pm kick off in Austria. The friendly comes 30 years after the two sides met in the UEFA Cup.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Videoton 2-4 (0-2), Videoton vs Paris Saint-Germain 2-0 (2-0) - (match abandoned), Videoton - Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 (0-0). These results came in the autumn of 1984, within a period of two weeks in the UEFA Cup 2nd round. Vidi made it all the way to the cup final, coming up against Real Madrid, beating the famous French side comfortably along the way.

Videoton club director Győző Burcsa, played in all three of those matches, providing an assist in the first game, while heading a goal in the second match. "I am proud that Videoton can play against PSG after such a long time. They are the number one team in Paris, and their popularity in France is the same as Ferencvaros in Hungary. I had the chance to play against them three times, thirty years ago, and it was just bad fortune that my headed goal in the second match did not count, with the match being abandoned, but the main thing was that we won and went through" - commented Győző Burcsa.

30 years since that big run, although it is only in a friendly match, the two sides will once again come face-to-face. (Our club are planning a program during the 2014-2015 season to remember the 1984-85 UEFA cup run, celebrating the 30th anniversary.)

PSG are one of the major clubs in today's football, winning the French championship four times, and winning the last two domestic league titles. The total value of their squad exceeds the 300 million euro mark. PSG, who also play in red and blue, have international players in their team such as Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Uruguay player Edinson Cavani, Argentinian Ezequiel Lavezzi and Javier Pastore. Further stars include Italian Thiago Motta, Salvatore Sirigu and Marco Verratti, Brazilian Thiago Silva and David Luiz, as well as French players Balise Matuidi and Yohan Cabaye. Almost half of their 25 man squad have or are still participating for their countries in the Brazilian World Cup finals.

They made it through to the quarterfinals of the last two Champions league seasons, with Barcelona, and then Chelsea knocking them out.

The friendly will be played on Saturday 12th July in Gleisdorf, with a 17:00pm kick off. (Further details of the pre-season camp, which begins this Saturday, will appear on vidi.hu shortly.)
