Stopira represented his country in two international qualifiers

The left back was involved in both of Cape Verde's qualifiers against Morocco.

Vidi left back Stopira recently played in two African Cup of Nations qualifiers. While Hungary were involved in a friendly game, which resulted in a 1-1 draw with Croatia, Stopira was far away playing twice against Morocco. We asked him about his experiences after he linked back up with the Vidi squad.

"Sadly we lost both games against Morocco. We did not play the way we know we can in the first game. We still had chances but we did not convert them. We performed much better in the second game, but the match officials.... I do not want to say that it was because of them that we lost, but let's just say that Morocco controlled the match after a penalty and a sending off. Our own international side started from a very low point a few years ago, but we are now among the best teams in Africa. We have battled a lot to get to where we are" - commented the Vidi defender.

Stopira and his team mates, including former Vidi forward, Ze Luis, are currently third in their group.

"São Tomé and Principe and Libya will be the two games still to play before we finish the group stage. We still have a chance so we will do all we can to qualify for the African Cup of Nations. We will need all six points if we are to be there in Gabon in 2017. We will need to show that we are a strong side" - added Stopira.
