Report: Three very important points against Debrecen

It was the seventh win in a row over DVSC as the race for the title continues with Honved.

Vidi went into Saturday evening's game with DVSC, knowing that Honved had scored a 95th minute winner to secure a 1-0 win over Gyirmot earlier. Those 3 points meant that they remained at the top of the OTP league table. Not only were Vidi motivated to do well but the visitors, as fellow relegation threatened MTK and DVTK both also won. That resulted in Debrecen occupying a relegation spot at the time of kick off.

Henning Berg was able to recall Danko Lazovic again after his 3 match ban. One player missing was Asmir Suljic, who had suffered a slight pull in Wednesday's training session. Loic Nego started on the right wing with Attila Fiola behind him at right back.

The game started and it was Videoton that had the first chance on 2 minutes. A Juhasz shot was hacked away from the goal line by one of the visiting white shirted defenders. Then Scepovic tried his luck and Danilovic was able to save well. At the other end, Holman found himself behind Stopira, and shot from a tight angle, but Kovacsik was equal to it and it went out for a corner. There was a good tempo to the game and the action continued with those coming out to Felcsut not being disappointed by what they saw.

The next chance arrived after 9 minutes when Lazovic played in Scepovic, who played the ball in from virtually the goalline with power, and the ball in from the left ended up going in to the net for an own goal by Debrecen's Meszaros. 1-0! It was just the breakthrough that Vidi needed. Visiting player Toszer then shot at goal a couple of minutes later, but Kovacsik was on hand to save the chance. The 13th minute saw a ball in from Stopira, which was volleyed at goal from 15 meters by Nego, but the ball went wide of the goal. A 19th minute Lazovic free kick went just wide of keeper Danilovic' goal.

With half an hour on the clock, Scepovic served Nego with a lovely ball, and Danilovic managed to rush out, but the ball fell to Patkai in the box, who volleyed it, but the ball rolled the wrong side of the post and the empty goal.

Debrecen were back in the game against the run of play after 34 minutes. Konyves had his back to goal, before turning his defender, and hitting a first time shot from 20 meters, which found the back of the net to make it 1-1.

The teams went in at the break level in what was a good first half of football. The action continued in the second period with Stopira going down the left on 53 minutes. His ball into the middle just missed the arriving Lazovic, who had raced into the box. The ball also eluded the outstretched Nego at the far post. Nego received a good ball 5 minutes later after being played in down the right wing by Lazovic. He raced into the box before squaring the ball across goal for Scepovic to connect at the far post and make it 2-1.

A very good save by Kovacsik followed after 63 minutes as he denied a 23 meters shot by Holman. The supporters saw the next chance five minutes later when Ferenczi volleyed a shot that looked to be heading for the bottom corner, but again the home keeper did well to keep it out. Scepovic almost returned the favour to Nego with an assist on 75 minutes, but the French player could not beat Danilovics from a good position.

It seemed as if the game was safe for Videoton after 81 minutes. Patkai did very well before finding Hadzic to his left, who lifted the ball delicately over the advancing Danilovics to make it 3-1. Debrecen were not giving up and went down the other end to get back into the game once again. A neat run down the left was clipped home by Handzic, who showed a neat touch to make it 3-2.

The supporters were in store for an exciting last few minutes to a good game under the lights of the Pancho Arena. A Patkai shot on 87 minutes was saved by Danilovics, as Vidi pressed inside the visitors half. There was an additional 5 minutes added by the match official, which included a chance for the red and whites. Filip sent his effort beyond the post as the score remained.

The referee blew for full time and Vidi now have 53 points, which is the same as leaders Honved. The Budapest side are top thanks to having won more games. Vidi are again in action at the Pancho Arena next week with a match against Haladas.
