Videoton picked up 3 points with goals from Juhasz and Henty to stay at the top of the league.
Videoton played their 13th OTP league game of the season on Saturday against Puskas Academy. Hungarian FA rules deemed the location of the fixture to be played on a neutral pitch. Therefore the game took place in Budapest at the MTK stadium. Vidi went into the game having never lost against the side from Felcsut. That proud record would continue after the 90 minutes, which produced a 2-0 win for the boys from Szekesfehervar.
Missing through injury was Istvan Kovacs, but duo Mate Patkai and Danko Lazovic both returned after a period out through suspension. The first chance of the game arrived after 4 minutes with Geresi receiving the ball on the edge of the box. He rolled the ball into the middle for Henty, with the forward turning and shooting, but keeper Hegedus was equal to it and saved the effort. The ball bounced in front of Lazovic three minutes latr, but again the visiting keeper was on hand to deny the Vidi forward from 14 meters.
Vidi kept their foot on the pedal and battled to win a free kick on 8 minutes. Hadzic stood behind the ball and shot from 25 meters, which produced an acrobatic save from Hegedus. It was an eventful opening few minutes full of action. The ball was in the back of the net after 11 minutes with Stopira connecting with an inswinging free kick, but referee Kassai disallowed the goal.
Hadzic sent a powerful shot at goal from 19 meters, which again was kept out by Hegedus in the Puskas goal. A cross five minutes later from Geresi was headed at goal by Lazovic, but former MTK keeper Hegedus was well placed to keep it out. Hadzic remained in the thick of things with yet another strike at goal, which this time went over the bar. Puskas had their first chance of the game when Perosevic remained onside to roll the ball back into the path of Latifi, who shot wide and high from 16 meters. Knezevic sent in a dangerous cross after 25 minutes, which was saved by Kovacsik, and the Vidi keeper saved well to deny Szakaly.
The final chance of the first period fell to Geresi whose header went over and the teams went in at the break with the score at 0-0.
The second half kicked off as the majority of the first half had been played: Stopira had a big chance after 48 minutes and then Lazovic also had a big chance, but Stopira's chance went over while the latter was punched clear by Hegedus. Vidi remained in control and kept on creating chances on the visiting goal. Juhasz remained forward and flicked the ball towards goal, which produced a great save, while Mevoungou saw his chance go just wide.
Puskas Academy remained on the back foot with the pressure continuing but the next big chance came on 66 minutes. Henty tried from 23 meters but it sailed into the hands of Hegedus. Hadzic found himself well placed following a good move a minute later, but his close range shot was blocked and ball went out for a corner.
A counter attack on 71 minutes ended with Prosser taking the ball towards Juhasz, and his sjot was well saved by Kovacsik. Hadzic had a shot from 23 meters that went over the bar with the Bosnian midfielder seeing plenty of the ball and not being afraid to shoot on sight.
The break through came with four minutes remaining of normal time. A corner from the right was headed home by Juhasz to make it 1-0. Lazovic played himself through on 90 minutes, but he tried to beat his man instead of shooting and fell to the floor. However, referee Kassai waved play on and booked the Serbian forward. There was still time for more action and a second goal that secured the 3 points. Suljic sent a cross from the right on 91 minutes that was well connected with by Henty, and his shot flew past keeper Hegedus to make it 2-0.
The win kept Vidi clear at the top of the table and the record of never losing to Puskas continues. Vidi are next in action on Tuesday with a visit to Dabas in the Hungarian cup.
