Videoton worked hard to force a goaless draw at the home of Debrecen on Wednesday. José Gomes' side had the cushion of a first leg 1-0 lead, which they took in to the second leg. Manager Gomes made several changes to the side, which comfortably beat Honved 4-0 on Sunday evening. Szolnoki came in at right back, with the popular Stopira starting the game at left back. Recent loan signing Roland Juhasz partnered Vinicius in the heart of defence. There was a five man midfield for the match with Oliveira, young Uros Nikolics, Toth and another loan signing of Vitor and Gyurcso making up the numbers. The hard working Torghelle played the lone frontman, supported by the midfield behind him.
The match kicked off in nice spring weather, with around 2000 inside the tight compace ground. Nemanja Nikolics scored the only goal in the first leg, to give Vidi a lead, and it proved a very valuable goal in the end. Debrecen started the match by going on the attack, as their manager said they would. They created two good chances in the opening 10 minutes, but Bozsovics was in good form in the Vidi goal. Vidi came back into the game as time went on, and began to direct things nicely. They also had some good chances midway through the first half. Gyurcso crossed for Torghelle to shoot, before Oliveira struck the post, which proved to be the most memorable efforts in the first 45 mintues. Debrecen did manage to carve out chances, without ever seriously threatening the Vidi goal. The teams went in at the break with the game fairly balanced.
Debrecen began the second half on the front foot, but once again they found it hard to breakthrough the solid looking visiting defence. With Debrecen trying to attack in search of the all important goal, it left them open for the counter attack. Gyurcso, who was celebrating his 22nd birthday had two shots on goal. Vidi looked the more likely to score as time went by, but despite late shots from the feet of Torghelle and Gyurcso, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, which means that Videoton will face Pecs over two legs, with the first game taking place on the 20th March, with the return leg on the 23rd March..
