A comfortable win for Videoton at the home of Paks

Videoton hit four goals to go three points clear at the top of the OTP league table.

The two sides met in the NBI for the 25th time on Wednesday evening. The starting line-up included Krisztian Tamas, who replaced Stopira at left back, as "Stopi" was away on international duty with Cape Verde. He helped his country to a 2-1 win over South Africa on Tuesday.

The game did not start at a fast tempo with both sides gaining possession in the early exchanges. The home side went threatened more in the first 30 minutes. Kulcsar and then Bertus saw their shots go wide of Kovacsik's goal. There were 20 minutes on the clock when a corner for the home side create confusion. The ball finally fell to Gevay, who shot just wide of the goal. Vidi took the lead a little against the run of play. Krisztian Tamas sent in a pinpoint cross from the left and Danko Lazovic rose unchallenged to head into the empty net (0-1).

A free kick on 40 minutes for Paks fell to Zachan, and he aimed for the far post from close range, but Kovacsik pulled off a very good save to deny him. Vidi then went down the other end to double their lead a minute later. Hadzic won the ball inside the Paks half before releasing Suljic, who remained calm to stroke the ball past the home keeper and make it 0-2.

It was Paks who started the second half the more active. They won three corners in a short space of time, with the final one proving dangerous. Gevay headed against the cross bar from inside the box. Suljic received a lovely ball after 55 minutes and went down the left, before playing the ball across goal, but defender Szabo could only connect with the ball and send it into the back of the net to make it 0-3. Things became even better on the night in the pouring rain as Vidi made it 4-0. This time Lazovic played a fantastic well timed ball to the feet of Nego, who did well to take the ball beyond keeper Verpecz and roll it into the net (0-4).

With 20 minutes remaining of the match, Adam Kovacsik was on hand to again produce a good save from Hahn. However, he could do nothing as Paks scored a consolation goal from the head of Bartha from 8 meters to make it 1-4 on the night. There was still time for a header from Zachan but there were no further goals and Vidi picked up 3 points to increase their lead at the top of the OTP league.

Haladas are the visitors to the Pancho Arena on Sunday evening with kick off at 17:00pm.
