A 90th minute Huszti goal secures the win over Honved

MOL Vidi FC picked up 3 important points in Budapest on Saturday evening with Huszti scoring the only goal right at the end of the match.

Match 27 of the OTP league saw Vidi make the trip to Budapest on Saturday to face Honved. The Nandor Hidegkuti stadium is the temporary home of the red and blacks. Honved went into the game in 5th place in the table while MOL Vidi sat in second place. Both sides were in midweek Hungarian Cup action with Honved defeating Budaors 4-2 while Vidi recorded a 2-0 win over FTC.

The first half was mainly dominated by battles with very few chances to talk about. The first real chance fell to the home side after 23 minutes with Holender trying to shoot as he was put under pressure by Vinicius, and Kovacsik produced a very good save. The game was half an hour old when Milanov sent a ball in that bounced in front of Nikolov, but keeper Grof collected it.

Holender on the left minutes later found himself one on one with Juhasz before going towards the goal line and sending in a cross from a tight angle that bounced off Kovacsik for a corner. Vinicius fouled Holender after 41 minutes around 20 meters from his own goal. Holender picked himself up to send his free kick at goal, but it took a deflection off Futacs and went out for a corner. That was the final moment of the first half.

The start of the second period saw Kovacs pass to Nego on 47 minutes. Nego took the ball but was brought down, but the referee judged the challenge from Uzoma was outside the box. Milanov stood behind the ball and his free kick was saved by keeper Grof. Nego sent a cross in towards Futacs, but his shot from 6 meters went over the bar.

The next chance arrived after 73 minutes when a shot from Gazdag from 23 meters went wide of Kovacsik' goal. Marko Nikolic made changes to try and shake up his side. Hodzic and Huszti came on but the general picture of the match did not change. Referee Vad II brought out the yellow card several times. A shot from Lovric after 80 minutes went wide of the goal. Huszti's free kick a minute later ended with Stopira shooting at goal from a tight angle, which Grof saved.

With two minutes remaining of the game, Stopira sent in a cross that Hodzic arrived to meet at a good tempo, but the ball ended up going wide of the post from 5 meters. The breakthrough eventually arrived on 90 minutes when Stopira sent in a lovely cross that Huszti rose to head home (0-1). Keeper Grof had no chance as the header flew in from close range. The goal also meant that the gap between Vidi and FTC continues to be 8 points.

Vidi are next in action in a week's time when Ujpest are the visitors to the MOL Arena Sosto.
